Step 1: Download the free Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone

Step 2: Access a service that requires MFA

• On a computer or tablet (not your phone), visit Outlook Webmail, CSIU FIS, or Frontline Education and sign in with your L-S credentials. It's also possible that Outlook (on Windows) will prompt you to enter your credentials.
  
  
• After entering your credentials, a window will appear and indicate that more details are needed. Choose Next:
  
  
  
  
• You will then have an option to register with the app. Choose Next and then Next again on the second screen: 
  
  

  
  

• At this point, you're ready to enroll in MFA with your phone. Move to step 3.
  
  

Step 3: Enroll with MFA on your phone

• Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
  
  
• If asked to agree to the privacy terms, choose "I agree."
  
  
• At the next screen, choose Skip:
  
  
• Then choose the plus symbol in the top right corner to add a new account. If asked about a backup, just choose continue:

  
  

  
  
  
• Choose Work or school account:

  
  

  
  
  
• Choose Scan QR Code:
  
  
  
• The app will then use your phone to scan a QR code on your computer:

  
  

  
  
  
• Scan the QR code that is on your laptop screen and then choose Next:
  
  
  
• At the next screen, you will be prompted to try out the MFA. This should push a notification to your phone. On your phone, choose Approve.
  
   
  
  
• Congratulations! That's it! You have successfully enrolled in MFA. When the app prompts you to approve a login, be sure that you're the one trying to sign in! If someone else is trying to access your account, your app will prompt you for the 2nd factor. Never approve it unless you're the one trying to log into one of the services.

Alternative Option: Use Text Message

If you prefer to use a text message option instead of using the app from MS, the steps are listed below. This method is sufficient, but does require more effort each time you need to enter a second factor.

• When prompted to download the Microsoft Authenticator App, choose I want to set up a different method. 
  
  
  
• Choose Phone from the dropdown menu and then Confirm:
  
  
  
• On the next screen, enter your mobile phone number and choose Next.
  
  
  
• The system will send a six digit code to your phone. Enter that number in the box and choose Next.
  
  
• That's it! You're enrolled in MFA using SMS messages.
